Catto Design Studio
Catto Design Studio was founded in 2011 by Mariette Groen and is based in Brooklyn, New York.
Mariette works from Greenwich House Pottery, one of the oldest and best known ceramic schools in NYC. She draws inspiration from her Dutch roots, her English family, world travels and daily life in Brooklyn, NY. Textile influences often feature in her work.
For her ceramics, Mariette uses a wide range of different clays including porcelain, white stoneware and sculpture clay. She carefully selects stains, glazes and oxides to color her clay to create ranging effects. Her work is both hand built and wheel thrown. Different firing atmospheres and temperatures make for exciting and ever changing end results.
